I am so happy for Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. I feel like I personally know them and should have been invited to the wedding. I'm jk but I do love this family and I think they are so meant to be together. I hope they don't end up like most of celebrity marriages, dividing holidays and signing divorce papers. I truly wish the best for them!
Here's a lookback at the amazing Nicole Richie (I almost forgot about the crazy hair extentions!)
In 2003, a then-unknown and recently rehabbed Nicole Richie (she was busted with heroin in Malibu earlier in the year) headed down to farm country with her BFF Paris Hilton to film The Simple Life. The reality series, which ran for five seasons, chronicled the Beverly Hills besties slumming it in Arkansas. Sanasaaaa Sanasa!
In 2005, Nicole Richie was engaged to the late DJ AM (Adam Goldstein). After they broke-up, they remained very close friends up until his accidental overdose in 2009.
After scaring America with these horrifying photos of anorexia, Nicole Richie admitted to Vanity Fair in 2006, that she was stressed and knew she looked horrible. She did seek treatment and overcame her bad choices.
The DUI's. Mugshots. Driving backwards down a highway ramp, high on cocaine and filled with oxycotin. She admitted to police that she was guilty and said she would accept whatever punishment given by the law.
Arriving to court with her Good Charlotte leading man at her side, Richie pleaded guilty to and was sentenced to four days in jail (she ended up serving 82 minutes in jail, paid a $2,048 fine, got three years' probation term and enrolled in an alcohol education program). The event is bittersweet for the couple, who confirm that the Nicole is pregnant with their first child. "I would really want to be someone my child would look up to," she told Meredith Viera during a special interview on the Today Show, with Madden adding that "marriage is in our future."
Baby bliss arrives for Nicole and Joel, welcoming baby Harlow Winter Kate Madden into their lives, January 11, 2008. Hard to believe she will be turning three this coming January.
Inspired with the positivity in her life, Nicole and Joel started the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation, a non-profit organization benefiting hospitals and local charities.
Now a mom-of-two (she welcomed son Sparrow on Sept. 9, 2009), Richie balances motherhood with her burgeoning career as a designer for her line of jewelry, House of Harlow 1960, and her fashion line, Winter Kate. "I'm a busy mom, but there are 24 hours in the day, and I have a routine down so I can fit everything necessary into my life," she told Elle Magazine.
After three years of dating and two adorable babies, Madden proposes to Richie – and she accepts, showing off her Neil Lane sparkler at the Oscars in March 2010. Despite the bliss and bling, Nicole says it took motherhood for her to realize she was ready to be a wife.
